Designers & coders getting a fair deal

Wed Aug 27, 2008, 3:55 PM
With the healing process under way, I'm moving back into the groove I was in beforehand, namely addressing the rather extreme buyer bias that is rife on many 'competition' and freelance websites.

While it's always important that buyers be protected, the number of abusers of these sites has been growing and due to the nature of these sites, this trend is allowed to go unchecked.

As a project manager, I constantly focus on what the project can do to earn money for the people behind the website, but also in how it can give true value to the people USING the website... otherwise I don't take the project.

So this is why I've been working with some friends on dA that are designers and coders to plan a site that achieves the following:

  • Brings more equality to the buying process

  • No more 0% deposit and run off with the first mock-up

  • A companion site to 'rate' buyers so that the good ones can be recognized independently.

  • Easy to use system for the buyer and the designer/coder

  • Transparent fee system

  • Designers get 100% of their design fee, coders get 100% of their coding fee

  • A means of advertising every member's existing websites and portfolio for prospective clients

  • A gallery to advertise leftover designs from contests on other sites for buyers to easily view and pay cash for

  • A learning centre for new designers and coders

  • A community that works WITH other communities like dA, Elance and Digital Point rather than making a vain attempt to compete with them

  • Tutorials from and interviews with successful designers and coders on how to make sure you can eat and pay the rent!

Lots of designers interested (no surprise there :D) - just no coders yet, need a reliable one to code the sucker :(
